Job Responsibilities:

  • Runs Open Enrollment processes for active employees and retirees and ensures data integrity; collaborates with vendors on rates and communication materials for employees; conducts audits post-close.

  • Plays lead role in development projects to ensure the successful and timely completion of health benefit system needs, ensuring accurate representation of program components and workflows. Ensures compliance with data privacy regulations and adheres to best practices.

  • Creates, analyzes, and validates benefit reports and census files for plan audits, insurance carriers, benefit brokers, and management. Assists with various end-of-year vendor file feeds to ensure compliance.

  • Serves as primary liaison to payroll department, vendors, and HRIS to provide subject-matter expertise and address and resolve issues.

  • Develops benefits procedures and documentation; implements procedures, audits, and reporting mechanisms. Identifies opportunities to reengineer and realign benefits procedures and administration in conjunction with the university’s ERP program efforts.

  • Communicates and explains benefit-related changes; serves as point of escalation to address complex employee queries and tickets.

  • Identifies effective and innovative strategies for benefits-related communications. Coordinates staff workshops and other communication strategies.

  • Leads internal department training and development efforts including benefit policies and procedures, annual enrollment updates, and HRIS enhancements; Provides leadership and support to team members regarding usage, troubleshooting and implementation of various systems.

  • Supports ACA process by conducting audits; peer reviews and cross-validates 1095-C form mailings.

  • Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings and seminars as appropriate. Stays abreast of benefits trends and best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field plus minimum 6-7 year’s human resources or benefits related experience or Associate’s degree in related field plus minimum 8-9 years human resources or benefits related experience.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Skills:

Thorough knowledge and understanding of how to correctly apply local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to benefits administration, such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc., to ensure compliance.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, must have Excel, pivot table and V-look up experience.

Advanced HRIS benefit platform experience.

Excellent research and analytical skills.

Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and be detail-oriented.

Excellent organization and customer service skills.

Excellent writing skills for reports and benefits information. Ability to present information clearly and in a manner that is understandable to managers and employees to answer questions.

Job Summary:

Temporary Position: The initial appointment period is 20 months ending on February 1, 2026 and is conditioned on satisfactory performance as determined by the Human Resource’s Office. This appointment may be extended based on satisfactory performance and the needs of the Enterprise Resource Planning project.

Reporting to the Director of Benefits and Wellness, the Senior Benefits Analyst will apply broad knowledge of benefits programs and federal and state regulations to administer RIT Benefits plans including group health and dental plans, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, education benefits, retirement plans, retiree benefits and other voluntary benefits, across various applications and platforms.

The Senior Benefits Analyst will gather, organize, evaluate, and validate human resources data, metrics, and statistics related to employee benefits and leave programs. They will liaise across benefits, HR, payroll and with outside vendors, as appropriate, to develop and re-engineer processes, and to provide training for new and existing staff on updated policies, procedures, and the HRIS system.
