New York University [Music Technology] Adjunct Faculty in New York

NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions (MPAP) Music Technology Program seeks qualified candidates to teach in the following fields:

Graduate Fundamentals of Music Technology (Graduate Level)

A general introduction to the fundamental concepts of music technology, including: sound propagation, the principles of microphone, speaker and mixer technology, sound synthesis, MID, and the basics of analog and digital audio systems including music creation software. The lectures will be complemented by practical assignments and demonstrations, through which students will gain a basic understanding of how to use technology to support their future studies in music and audio engineering.

Fundamentals of Digital Signal Theory Lab (Graduate Level)

Hands-on lab accompanying Fundamentals of Digital Signal Theory Lecture course (which forms theoretical and practical foundations for digital signal processing). Lab sessions will contain programming exercises to reinforce topics including signal representation, Fourier transform, spectrum analysis, transfer functions, convolution, and filtering.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in music or music technology or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

  • Previous teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience and significant achievement in the field.

  • Teaching at the Graduate level in the field.

  • For Graduate Fundamentals of Music Technology: Expertise in the fundamental concepts of music technology (including but not limited to: sound propagation, the principles of microphone operation, the use of speakers and mixers, the MIDI standard and its implementation, the basics of digital systems, waveform editing and audio file formats and compression) either academically, professionally or both.

  • For Fundamentals of Digital Signal Theory Lab: Expertise in Fundamentals of Digital Signal Theory that includes experience working with audio in Python, either academically, professionally or both. Hands-on DST lab teaching experience is especially preferred.
