Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer – Internal Combustion Engine Propulsion & Thermal System Engineering (IPTSE).

This PVT Engineering position is a member of Ford Motor Company's Product Development organization that is located at the Chicago Assembly Plant (CAP) along with the Operations team. The PVT Engineer at CAP is 'first line of defense' for Quality of the Explorer, Aviator, and Police Interceptor products produced at CAP.

The IPTSE group is a close-knit team within the larger PVT at CAP. The systems managed within the IPTSE function are Engines, Fuel Systems, Powertrain Cooling, Climate Control, Exhaust Systems, Air Induction, Powertrain Mounts, and High Voltage Powertrain Systems (Hybrid Electric Vehicles). Our primary focus is analyzing internal and external quality data and coordinating responses, with an emphasis on design-related issues. The work we do ranges from immediate containment with actions on the assembly line to coordinating significant long-term redesigns, with the ultimate goal of continuously improving the quality of the vehicles leaving this facility to drivers worldwide.

Additionally, we assist with major new product launches, support the supply base in the event of disruptions or other changes, and work with the manufacturing team to resolve process issues with design input.

*This role is based out of our Chicago plant.

In this position...

  • Review incoming warranty claims data daily, review customer and dealership comments, bin claims into proper categories, contact dealerships for parts and repair diagnoses, participate in customer call back to ensure proper understanding of customer inputs in Quality surveys, review returned parts for root cause analysis and develop Interim Containment and Permanent Corrective Actions.

  • Support assembly plant with Stop Ships/Stop Builds, Campaigns, Audits, Root Cause Analysis and other Quality issues.

  • Maintain sub-system or Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) level Quality documents and drive the achievement of quality targets.

What you'll do...

  • Lead engineering design changes for future minor product launches.

  • Support Variability Reduction Team (VRT) for specific sub-systems and work closely with Supplier partners for sub-system components to address quality concerns.

  • Lead engineering trials and the implementation of running changes for the sub-system.

  • Issue engineering Alerts and initiate & pursue authorization of engineering Concerns for product changes to support Quality objectives.

  • Engage technical experts and functional team members for driving resolution and in developing corrective actions to improve product Quality.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to various levels of management.

You'll have…

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering.

  • 2+ years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to establish a systems-engineering approach to problem-solving.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Excellent presentation/communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Engineering Problem Solving; root cause identification and analysis, developing Containment Actions and Permanent Corrective Actions.

  • Working in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Even better, you may have...

  • Six-Sigma Training (green belt or black belt).

  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing industry.

  • Experience with automotive systems, especially chassis, suspension, braking, powertrain.

  • Experience with Change Management.

This position is a range of salary grades 6 -8 .
