Description

St. James Hospital is recruiting for a Mammography Tech. This opportunity has flexibility for full-time or part-time hours.

Under direct supervision, the Mammography Technologist performs specialized examinations of the breast to help diagnose and treat breast disease in patients. A Mammography Technologist may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Mammography Technologist is expected to practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology Manager or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Complete patient education regarding the exam

  • Promote privacy for the patient

  • Promote comfort for the patient

  • Perform diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered

  • Produce high-quality films for the radiologist to evaluate

  • Complete appropriate documentation

  • Perform quality control functions related to mammography

  • Assist in the compilation and maintenance of statistical data

  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines

  • Communicate with internal scheduling, the ultrasound department, primary care physicians, and the radiologist.

  • Delegate reports, obtain medical releases, upload images

  • Maintain and track biopsy reports

  • Maintain records for MQSA

  • Send correspondence letters to patients

  • Call patients back for additional views

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology

  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique

  • Serves as the primary liaison between patients Radiologists and other members of the support team

  • Use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence

  • Ability to work as a team member

  • Skilled in the operation of Mammography equipment

  • Attention to detail

  • Basic understanding of computer technology

  • Perform all duties using proper body mechanics

  • Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment

  • Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor

  • Consistent attendance is required to ensure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology

  • MQSA/FDA- 15 CEUs every 3 years, 200 documented case numbers every 2 years

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Valid state radiology registration as required by state law

  • Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology Current CPR

Physical Demands

  • Frequently move/lift around 40 pounds, depending on assignment requirements

  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment, materials

Language Ability

  • Ability to talk to others and convey information effectively

  • Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

  • Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Working Conditions

The Mammography Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood-borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dust. In addition to, frequent exposures to distressed patients, families, or visitors.

Salary Description

Min: $27.80/Max: $33.41
