Description

St. James Hospital is recruiting for a per diem Cardiac Sonographer within our imaging department.

Cardiac Sonographers perform all Cardiac Ultrasound examinations as requested by the referring Physicians. Echo sonographers, also known as echocardiographers, create images of the heart with sophisticated equipment that uses high-frequency sound waves. Sonographers in this field work directly with patients throughout procedures.

Job Results & Essential Function

  • Work closely with patients throughout the echo exam.

  • Cardiac Sonographers and physicians work as a team during the echo procedure to accurately integrate data for optimal diagnoses.

  • Maintains professional competencies.

  • Able to perform exams within the department and portably meet patients' needs.

Delivery of High-Quality Clinical Outcomes:

  • Applies evidence-based healthcare practices

  • Complies with policies and procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

  • Supports a culture of safety and quality patient care

  • Understand and utilizes contrast when needed.

  • Understand how to operate complex machinery and computerized instruments.

  • Organization and time management skills

  • Ability to start IVs and administer contrast. Advanced education and training provided.

  • Responds to requests from Imaging Director, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assist with evaluation of programs and services. Communicates with Director regarding cost savings initiatives and planning.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Clinical experience- Degree in diagnostic medical sonography.

License and/or Certifications:

  • RDCS, or RDMS, CCI preferred. CPR Certified.

Physical Demands:

Ability to move or transfer patients with an individual effort equal to 50 lbs. Should have a full range of body motion to successfully perform all essential functions of the job, meaning you'll have to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and reach frequently during a 12-hour shift. Accommodations are made for nurses with disabilities.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/trade/technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, patients, and vendors. Friendly, caring and compassionate.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, rates and ratios.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
